  • An inspired partnership

    An inspired partnership

CHDC helped Catholic Charities expand its services to homeless adults as the developer and long-term owner of the award-winning Higher Ground, which provides permanent housing and shelter spaces for up to 331 residents near downtown Minneapolis.  From navigating complex financing to developing and owning the property, CHDC has brought decades of housing expertise to the partnership. The result? Catholic Charities is free to focus on its core mission.

  • Increasing impact

Integrating new construction into an existing campus allows nonprofit and government agencies to provide more housing without acquiring additional land. On a publicly owned site near the Minneapolis VA Medical Center, CHDC renovated four classic Officers’ Quarters and constructed two additional buildings that integrated seamlessly into the site’s historic character. The new buildings added a total of 140 homes for veterans and other low-income adults.

  • Quality first

CHDC’s focus is building and sustaining housing for the long-term. That means choosing quality materials at the outset, from cabinetry and flooring to building systems. Selecting for quality and durability is an investment both in the property and in the satisfaction of its residents.

  • A worthy legacy

    A worthy legacy

CHDC was founded on preservation, purchasing housing to ensure it remained affordable over the long term. CHDC earned a Preservation Award in 2010 from the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency for its transformation of Chancellor Manor in Burnsville. The property was purchased from a long-time owner divesting of his Section 8 units. CHDC completed a full exterior renovation, enhanced the site’s security features, and added family-friendly amenities. By choosing CHDC, the former owner helped ensure continued affordable options for Burnsville families.

  • Creating communities

    Creating communities

CHDC builds community right into the design of its properties. Warm and welcoming community spaces invite connections among residents. The organization also promotes community through informal gatherings including picnics, pizza nights, National Night to Unite events, and more. Decades of housing experience has taught CHDC that engaged residents make for a healthy community.
